Football betting tips online for Finland – Russia

Finland faces Russia at the Saint-Petersburg Stadium in a game from Group B of the Euro 2020. Stay with us because we will provide you with some football betting tips online about this fixture on Wednesday.

Finland are surely in high mood after achieving their first win at a major tournament in this nation’s history. Last week Suomi faced Denmark in Copenhagen and celebrated a 1-0 win over the Red Dynamite. Union Berlin’s Joel Pohjanpalo scored the only goal in the match in the second half. He put the ball in the net after an assist from Jere Uronen. Until the end of the game the manager Markku Kanerva made some adjustments and picked players like Kauko, Schuller, Forss and Valsanen from the bench. It was generally a solid performance by the debutants at European Championsips.

Of course, here we must remind you that Denmark was rocked by what happened to their star midfielder Christian Eriksen. The Inter Milan ace collapsed in the first half and he was transported to the hospital, but this clearly affected the Danish players’ minds. After all they decided to finish the game, but their mental state was not in their favour.

Now against Russia Finland must prove that what happened with Christian Eriksen was not the main reason why they won in Copenhagen. Another win here would allow Suomi to reach the knockout phase of the tournament. This would be a historic achievement for this nation for sure.

Against Denmark Markku Kanerva didn’t surprise us as he used a defensive 5-3-2 formation. The coach put a lot of players in defense, but how we said – it was not a surprise. Finland are among the underdogs at the Euro, and they don’t have any huge stars in their squad. Their main strength is the ability to play together as a team and the way each player is helping the player next to him. That’s how the Finish team qualified for the European Championship at first place.

We don’t expect that Kanerva will make a lot of changes to his starting eleven against Russia. Esbjerg’s striker Joni Kauko is an option for the attacking phase, but it’d be surprising if Kanerva put on the bench the star Teemu Pukki or the hero against Denmark Joel Pohjanpalo. Kauko will be ready to play if there’s a need for another forward on the pitch, though.

Teemu Pukki is the biggest name in the Finish squad at the moment. The Norwich City stirker is a well-known name in England, but he didn’t score in the first game against the Red Dynamite. It doesn’t mean that Pukki won’t try to do it now, of course.

The mood in Russia’s camp is completely different compared to their next opponent. Sbornaya didn’t do well against Belgium in their first match, and had to leave the pitch with a 0-3 defeat against the Red Devils. What the head coach Stanislav Cherchesov must do now is make his players forget about what happened as quick as possible.

We all knew that Russia were underdogs against Belgium, but maybe we expected something more from a team which reached the World Cup 1/4-finals in 2018. But it didn’t go according to the plan. Sbornaya tried their usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Artem Dzyuba at the top while Golovin, Zobnin and Kuzyaev had to operate behind him. These players didn’t have a lot of opportunities though because Belgium controlled the game and dominated the pitch.

Now it’s up to Stanislav Cherchesov to make some adjustments in his line-up and eventually improve his team’s performance. He could look at the bench where he can find some interesting options such as Denis Cheryshev, Vyacheslav Karavaev, Aleksey Miranchuk and Igor Diveev. All of them played against Belgium as well. Among the players Cherchesov didn’t use against the Red Devils we can find Spartak Moscow’s Aleksandr Sobolev, Lokomotiv Moscow’s Rifat Zhemaletdinov and Krasnodar’s Aleksey Ionov.

One of the reasons why Russia didn’t do too well against Belgium was their performance in central midfield. Stanislav Cherchesov gave starting spots to Dmitri Barinov and Magomed Ozdoev, but it wasn’t enough for Sbornaya to have the ball enough. Maybe Cherchesov make a serious mistake here because he had to place a third man there to fight against the magnificent Belgian team.

Aleksandr Sobolev is a player who could improve Russia’s firepower in the next game. Spartak’s striker scored 14 league goals last season, so it wasn’t surprising that Cherchesov decided to call him for the Euro. He has some impressive goal rate for the national team as well – so far he has scored 3 goals in 6 matches for Russia. That’s pretty good, so maybe the head coach must pay him attention right now.

There’s some negative statistics about the Russian side right now. Sbornaya are without a win in their last six games at the European Championship. At this moment they are 4th in their group, so they need to make something better against Finland if they want to reach the knockout phase. For the last time Russia achieved a win at the Euro against the Czech Republic in 2012.

The Russian fans expect more from Monaco’s Aleksandr Golovin. The 25-years old is one of the best Russian players at the moment despite not being at his best levels since moving to France. He remains a very important figure for Sbornaya, though. The team needs his creativity and vision.

That’s the football betting tips online for the Euro 2020 match between Finland and Russia on Wednesday. Sbornaya will have the chance to play on home turf here, so that’s an opportunity for them to keep their chances of progression. The Russian team is aware that it could be “game over” for them if they don’t take the three points against Suomi. Against Denmark Finland showed us that they are tough despite not having any huge stars in their team. Sometimes this is not the most important thing in football, right?
