Olympiakos Piraeus hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki

Olympiakos Piraeus hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki in a first leg from the Europa League 1/8-finals. Here are our Europa League predictions for this fixture on Greek soil.

Olympiakos will approach this tie with a lof of confidence after eliminating Arsenal from the competition. The Greeks were absolute underdogs against the great Gunners, but Pedro Martins’ team did something terrific – they won the second leg at the Emirates and shocked Arsenal at their own ground. Pape Abou Cisse and Youssef El-Arabi scored the two winning goals in Bernd Leno’s net. Probably Arsenal underrestimated Olympiakos a little bit, but this was entirely their own problem, right?

The Greek team have nothing to lose here, because nobody even expected that they would be at the 1/8-finals. This gives Pedro Martins and his players very good mental position to face Wolves from – they are the underdogs once again and this is the best news for them.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are having a very strong European campaign so far – from their first game until today. Nuno Santo’s team eliminated La Liga’s Espanyol in the previous round, despite of losing the second leg in Barcelona with 2-3. It was not much of a problem because they have won the first leg at the Molineux with 4-0.

This is going to be a curious tie because two Portuguese managers will face each other. You can be sure that Wolves will respect Olympiakos after the Greeks’ win over Arsenal. But it doesn’t mean that they will be scared of them – no way, they are still favourites in this clash.

In our Europa League predictions we think that Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking for some kind of a strategic result against Olympiakos. Wolves will rely on the second leg at the Molineux, but they must get a good result in Greece, too.
